Is it worth the hype?
Have been EDC-ing this light since November, 2019. I do not baby my gear whatsoever, my D4V2 has been through countless drops onto concrete, gravel, wood floor and compacted soil - and continues to work without a hitch.
Mine is in SST20 4000K, beautiful light. I was a light tint agnostic before, but high CRI is really starting to grow on me. You can go for other LED options for a little more power, but this is already an astounding amount of light coming out of such a small package. I grew up when Maglites were at the peak of their popularity, and the amount of advancement that flashlight technology has gone through boggles the mind.
Anduril. What can I say that hasn't already been said. Back in my day the button clicked to turn on, and off. Now we've got firmware flashing on your flashlight. Takes a tiny bit of learning to get into it, but now I'm comfortable with it I can't imagine using any other UI in a light.
As for the AUX LED's, I think they're fun, but to be honest I don't use them, apart from playing with it from time to time. I find them to be distracting to be honest, but most forumers are reporting that the battery drain is negligible.
I got the tail-magnet option, extra floody optic, and 18350 tube add-on options.
- The 18350 tube makes the light look comically small without sacrificing any power. Useful for when you need/want to go extra lightweight on your EDC kit.
- Tail magnet is a must have for me. Increases your options for mounting when tailstanding (or mouth-holding) isn't conducive or available.
- Extra floody optic: I got it just because I wanted to see the difference. It smooths out the beam pattern a bit, but other than that there's not much difference (for my purposes) to the standard optic.
So in conclusion, is it worth all the hype?
Absolutely - and then some.
* Pocket-size
* Awesome UI
* Good build quality
* Compact size, but with
* Serious flood power in a good selection of LED options.
The only thing I find it's lacking is a nice OEM clip option for the 18350 tube. Also, for the included clip, would prefer it to be deep. DEEP, deep carry :)
I have ordered the D4V2 end of October 2019. The parcel took just over two weeks to arrive and the packaging was very good.
It is a standard 18650 version, colored dark grey with the extra clip, the SST20 4000K emitter and the raised ring.
The light itself is just like in the pictures on this site: very, very nice. Some may say the SST20 might be a bit yellow, but I like the CRI of it a lot and its warmth. For a pure neutral white, you probably should get the XP-L.
The anduril firmware options are just too good, I love all the options and the low light is just perfect. For a night light the high setting of the AUX is also perfect.
The clip is pretty sturdy, keeping the light clipped to your pocket all day long.
Overall a definite must-buy and I can absolutely recommend this.

Nice little flashlight with incredible power.
Huge amount of light available for such a small device. Auxilliary leds are a cool addition.
The best flashlight available for this price!
